Festive Fun at Friths!

Some joys can only happen in winter.

Snow on the sea, lights in the trees, roaring fires, the sparkle of Christmas... winter at Friths is always a treat.

While the seaside is synonymous with sunshine, we think there are so many fantastic reasons to visit the Yorkshire coast all year round. Here are some of our favourites.

Winter Walks

Nothing beats a brisk and blustery walk along Scarboroughs beaches, knowing that you're headed home to Friths for a soak in the roll top bath, a roaring fire, and cosy sofa for watching films and reading books.

With both bays in easy reach, you can head to south bay, where you can pop into the arcades for a warm up, or north bay, it's wilder, more rugged sister. Pop into the Watermark Cafe for a take out hot chocolate to warm your hands on as you walk, or sit by their log burner and watch the wintery skies blow by outside the windows with a slice of their exceptional cake.

While you're out and about why not download the Echoes Audio Trail App and explore the town through Animated Objects geolocated story project, The Odyssey. A modern reimagining of Homers epic tale.

Scarborough Sparkle

Running from the 26th-28th November, Scarborough Sparkle offers illuminated rides, shopping and food and drink.

Scarborough Ice Rink

Open between the 3rd of Dec and the 2nd of January Scarborough Ice Rink is ready to welcome you for festive fun. Pre-booking is essential.

North Bay Railway Santa Specials

The charming miniature North Bay Railway run their annual Santa Specials , on special dates between the 4th and 23rd of December. Take the special train to Lapland - enjoy mince pies, hot chocolate and mulled wine, and juice and biscuits for the kids, visit Santa in his grotto, and enjoy entertainments, activities and maybe even a ride in Santas sleigh!

Stephen Joseph Theatre - Jack and The Beanstalk and The Giant Who Had It All.

Recently featured in The Guardians '25 best shows to book for Christmas 2021' list, Jack and the Beanstalk promises to be a witty, fast paced festive treat for the whole family, based in the beautiful Stephen Joseph Theatre - right in the centre of Scarborough. Marvel at the full size magic beanstalk growing through the heart of the building, enjoy a pre theatre meal at the fabulous Eat Me Cafe and then settle in to enjoy storytelling at its finest. Tickets are available from just £10, so early booking (Which you can do here) is highly advised. For tiny tots, The Giant Who Had It All offers interactive fun for 0-5's. (Plus their grown up humans!)

Dispense with the 'what if?' delivery concerns and shop local from one of our unique gift shops. We recommend the wonderful Homebird House, for Maelig Mouse and Jelly Cat toys, beautiful homeware and quirky gifts. Scarborough Market and the Market Vaults for quirky one offs and antiques, White Beach Designs for beautiful jewellery, and Very Very Vintage for retro homeware and vinyl.

Steampuss Cat Cafe
